HS2 in Old Oak & Park Royal – 6 September 2017 Project update & milestones

HS2 have begun to award major contracts to start the delivery HS2 activities in the Old Oak Common area

Enabling works:   Contract awarded October 2016 to Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV)

What they will deliver: Helping HS2 prepare for the start of the main construction works.  This includes the set up of site compounds, demolition of existing structures and utility diversions. Also delivering the noise insulation scheme.

Main works:   Contract award July 2017 to Skanska Costain Strabag Joint Venture (SCSJV)

What they will deliver: all of the tunnelling works across London.  

SCSJV will manage all HS2 site compounds in Old Oak Common, excluding the station site (below) 

The procurement of the Old Oak Common station designer. Contract award for the station designer is expected end January 2018. Four companies have been shortlisted:

  • Mott MacDonald
  • Ove Arup & Partners International
  • Team OOC: Jacobs, BuroHappold Engineering and Idom
  • WSP UK

Management of HS2 site compounds

HS2 will be establishing a number of construction compounds across the area, creating new sites or using sites currently in operation (for example the Willesden Euroterminal).  Most of these sites will be there to support the tunnelling activity between Euston to the east and West Ruislip to the west of Old Oak Common.

Embedding The Code of Construction Practice (COCP)

The Code of construction practice contains a series of measures and standards of work to be applied by HS2 and its contractors throughout the construction period.  All contractors will have to adhere to ALL of the requirements of the COCP including measures to reduce construction impacts and monitoring of air quality, noise and traffic

Preparations for enabling works

CSJV are finalising their plans for enabling works and will also need to adhere to ALL of the requirements of the COCP.
