The Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) is recruiting for new members to join its Community Review Group.

The group is the first of its kind in the UK and members play an active role in ensuring that new developments serve the needs of the community both now, and in the future. Established in 2018 it enables local people to shape upcoming regeneration in Old Oak and Park Royal.

OPDC’s recently adopted Local Plan paves the way for a welcoming and inclusive urban district around the new HS2 and Elizabeth Line station at Old Oak Common, with new and affordable homes, a range of job opportunities for local people, public green spaces, and facilities. The Community Review Group will play an integral role in shaping the future of these developments, there has never been a more exciting time to become a member. OPDC is looking for people who live, work, or regularly visit the Old Oak and Park Royal Area, from different ages and backgrounds to ensure the group reflects the diverse make-up of the local community.

OPDC will provide members with the support and knowledge they need to actively participate in the group and in return, members will gain skills and learn more about their local area – with the opportunity to have a major influence on decisions made by OPDC’s Planning Committee.

The group has influenced several major developments in the area, including in North Acton town centre and Atlas Wharf by helping to shape community facilities, building height and landscaping, ensuring that community uses are prioritised and built out first.

OPDC has partnered with Frame Projects to recruit the new members. Frame manages the group on behalf of the corporation to protect the group’s independence and impartiality, allowing freedom for members to give honest feedback.

You can request an application form by emailing community@frame-projects.co.uk.

Former Community Review Group member Celia Toler says: “I have learnt a lot from being a member of the Community Review Group. It has helped me to understand what I have to offer, and I would recommend this experience to anyone who feels responsibility and a desire to engage in what happens to our neighbourhood.”

Liz Peace CBE, OPDC’s Chair says: “Our Community Review Group has already started to influence the future of the Old Oak and Park Royal area, feeding into many exciting and high-profile planning applications. With our Local Plan newly adopted, the Group will be moving up a gear with a range of opportunities to shape the developments that will define what our area will become, so now is a fantastic time to join the Group and get involved.
“We’re committed to creating a lively and flourishing district where the benefits of regeneration are available to everyone and our Community Review Group is one of the many ways that we listen to the needs of local residents and ensure that regeneration works for them.”
