Brent Council proposes new pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Grand Union Canal Paddington Arm at Alperton.

Brent Council is looking to improve accessibility by building a new pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Grand Union Canal Paddington Arm at Alperton.

The new bridge will be located near the North Circular Aqueduct. It will provide a more direct east-west pedestrian and cycle network in and around Alperton, connecting the Grand Union development to the towpath on the southwestern side of the canal, the Abbey Estate and the shops beyond and Park Royal employment and commercial hub.

The new bridge will bring benefits to the local community by:

  • reducing journey times to key locations in the area;
  • enabling safer off-road walking and cycling;
  • encouraging boating, canoeing or other activities on the canal;
  • boosting health and wellbeing and spending more time in peaceful locations away from busy areas.

You can find out more about the scheme, and details in our consultation flyer.

With a week to go until the close of our consultation at 11:59pm on Friday 25 July 2025, we would hugely appreciate your help in sharing our survey with as many Alperton and Brent residents as possible, and any other community organisations. Their feedback is important to us!
